The flagship size of Opinel’s pocket knife collection; the No.08 has been featured in countless museums, books and galleries around the world. The knife is compact and fits well in any sized hand. The 3 ¼ inch stainless steel blade and varnished beech wood handle will stand up to years of use.
The blade has been designed and perfected over generations to maximize the cutting quality and ensure it’s easy to sharpen after years of hard work. Use it in the garden, at the dinner table, or even on your next adventure. Keep the knife in your pocket, purse or toolbox and we are certain you'll love it for years to come.
Opinel uses Sandvik(R) 12C27 Modified stainless steel. The Swedish steel is well known for its anti-corrosive properties which requires minimal upkeep. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% provides an excellent cutting edge which is also easy to keep sharp.
The patented VIROBLOC locking mechanism keeps your knife safely closed in your pocket and locks the blade open during use. The simplicity of the knife’s design and it’s sustainable wooden handle makes the knife lightweight too!
Both smart and simple, the Opinel folding knife is composed of 5 elements: the blade, the wooden handle, the fixed ferrule, the rivet and the rotating VIROBLOC locking ring which was added in 1955 to sizes No.06 and above.
The No.08 is the most widely distributed size in the ever-growing line of Opinel folding knives, earning its reputation as an everyday carry staple. The knife is equipped with a 3.25 inch blade, open length 7.59 inches and weighs in at an efficient 45 grams!
All Opinel wooden-handle knives are not designed to be washed in the dishwasher. Heat and moisture will cause any wood to swell which will make the knife hard to open at times. Opinel suggests carefully hand-washing your knives and leaving them out to air dry. The Sandvik 12C27 Mod. Stainless Steel used for the blades is low maintenance, meaning it is highly resistant to rust and can be polished or cared for with simple organic oils.
Joseph Opinel designed his first pocket knife in 1890, creating a tool that is as robust and functional as it is simple and beautiful. From his workshop at the foot of the French Alps, Opinel forged a cult classic. Generations of artists, explorers, and farmers have carried the instantly recognizable, imminently useful Opinel knife in their pockets.
Little has changed since 1890. Rooted in history and a commitment to craftsmanship, the Opinel family still makes their knives in the Savoie region of France. Each year, THEIR team of 150 employees in France manufactures over 5 million knives, ranging from outdoor tools to kitchen knives, all to honor Joseph Opinel’s focus on quality and simplicity.
