Important Info About Our Design of Throwing Axes

About Our Axe Handles

The perfect blend of hand forged high carbon steel hard enough to hold an edge and soft enough to sharpen and throw without risk of shattering. Finished in blue steel for rust protection.

Quality Throwing Axe

The heads are installed using friction fit method - they are designed to separate on bad impact to preserve the handle from breaking. If Your Axe Head Comes Loose This is COMPLETELY NORMAL. Simply slide the top of the axe head up the bottom of the handle (make axe and handle shape matches). Use a rubber mallet or turn the axe upside down and pound handle on hard surface

Think about how much more fun your throwing would be if you could nail your target virtually every time, if you could have a quality tomahawk that’ll last through repeated throwing, and you could have a professional quality axe that outperforms 99% of the competitors…without spending a fortune. Equipping yourself with our precise, proven tomahawk is your ticket to enjoying your throwing to the fullest!

Each head is designed for axe throwing which doesn't require a super sharp blade edge. For uses other than throwing such as chopping and splitting, these blades may require additional sharpening.

You will likely experience the separation of the axe head from the handle if the head or handle hit the target incorrectly.

Other products use a set screw to attached the head to handle. We believe a set screw doesn't offer a true and proper fit and it compromises the handles integrity.

Thus, we use a friction fit design that requires friction to hold the head and handle. Proper fit is required for this design to work correctly. If your head and handle separate frequently without reason, it is likely the handle needs to be sanded a bit where the fit is wrong.

We offer smaller sizes of throwing axes for younger throwers or for those who get sore throwing our standard size hatchets.

Grain refers to the direction of the "veins" of the wood. Wood will split easier if you are cutting in the direction of the grain. When chopping wood you try to cut along the grain to split the wood. If you were to use cross grain handles it just wouldn't make sense for throwing (they would break much easier). By selling only straight grain handles we are offering you the most durable handles available.

Hickory Is Ergonomically Better For Comfort And Stress Reduction

Hickory logs produce the best handles and are selected for their heavy weight, and straight grain.

The U.S. Forest Products Lab has found no difference in white or red hickory's strength. Therefore, the best hickory handles may be white, red or a mixture of both.

Hickory is a natural shock absorber and has excellent strength for tool handles.

American Hickory is the most sought after wood material to use for your axes and tomahawks. All the premium Swedish and German axe makers import American Hickory for their handles and proudly advertise it. We selected Hickory because it will take more abuse than maple or birch or ash. And on top of that, it is much more affordable.

Top quality hardwood means you can throw axes longer without the handle breaking.

Each handle is then sanded smooth and tumble waxed with a light coat of bees wax. This makes the grip software and extends the life of the wood.

*Slight variance in handle size may occur and some heads may require light work with sandpaper for the perfect fit.
